In collaboration with the National Agriculture Seed Council (NASC), we conducted an advocacy campaign to raise awareness about the passage of the Plant Variety Protection (PVP) bill aimed at protecting plant breeders and seed varieties in Nigeria. We engaged stakeholders in the sector through dialogues, focus groups and discussions on the importance of the PVP. Additionally, we leveraged the context of COVID-19 to engage farmers and stakeholders on the significance of the PVP law for the seed sector, its benefits in resolving intellectual property issues and enhancing food security, while also promoting COVID-19 safety measures. Our advocacy efforts resulted in the successful passage of the PVP bill.
